Only my Daily Bread

Here's Francis Chan commenting on some words from Proverbs 30, vv.7-9 (on a plane).

7 “Two things I ask of you, LORD; do not refuse me before I die:
8 Keep falsehood and lies far from me;
   give me neither poverty nor riches,
   but give me only my daily bread.
9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you
   and say, ‘Who is the LORD?’
Or I may become poor and steal,
   and so dishonour the name of my God.

In thinking about this challenge, it may be helpful to watch the video posted on this blog of David Platt talking about prayer - "Do we need Prayer?"
In the ID group we've talked a lot about security and idolatry over the last couple of months and these videos link in with that. Here's a few questions to ask and think about:
  1. Where do you find your security? In what (or whom) do you feel safe?
  2. What things in your life, if you lost them, would crush you and cause you to question God's goodness to you?
  3. Do you live a life each day which NEEDS you to pray?
  4. What thoughts come into your mind when you think about praying this prayer found in Proverbs 30?
